Miss Universe 2023
The stage is set for the grand spectacle of Miss Universe 2023, the 72nd edition of the prestigious pageant, to be held at the José Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador, on November 18, 2023. The event will witness the crowning of a new queen, who will succeed the reigning Miss Universe, R’Bonney Gabriel of the United States.
This year’s pageant will bring together contestants from eighty-five countries and territories, each representing the epitome of beauty, grace, and intelligence. The competition will be hosted by the dynamic trio of Jeannie Mai, Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo, and Maria Menounos, ensuring an evening filled with glamour and excitement.
Joining the hosts as backstage correspondents for the second consecutive year are Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and Zuri Hall, who will provide viewers with behind-the-scenes insights and exclusive interviews with the contestants.
To add to the star-studded evening, Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter John Legend will grace the Miss Universe stage with his captivating performance.
The Miss Universe pageant is more than just a beauty contest; it is a celebration of women’s empowerment, diversity, and cultural exchange. Contestants from all corners of the globe will showcase their talents, passions, and advocacy, inspiring millions worldwide.
Choosing participants
Participants hailing from eighty-five countries and territories have been chosen to partake in the competition. Among these, five delegates were selected through a casting process or as runners-up in their national pageants.
In a historic move after sixty-six years, the Miss Universe Organization has decided to once again allow married women and women with children to compete. Rikkie Kollé from the Netherlands and Marina Machete from Portugal will be the second pair of transgender women to compete in Miss Universe, following Ángela Ponce from Spain in 2018, while Camila Avella from Colombia and Michelle Cohn from Guatemala will be the first married women and mothers to participate since the Miss Universe Organization lifted the restriction on mothers competing.
